Keeping the Faith… in times like these

For those of us living in these times, we can say that these are some of the most tragic times we have personally known and/or witnessed. And it comes to no surprise. In the recent days, we have watched states become engulfed by wild, almost untameable fires… other states flattened by hurricanes… other areas shooketh by earthquakes… and now a shooting massacre in one of our nation’s most well-known areas.

Add to this the every day vices of other issues such as abortion, government control, racism, and so on – it can get pretty overwhelming, and quick. It seems to keep getting worse and worse, and people are finding it harder and harder to hang on to the faith that once seemed to come so easy. But why is that?

I could probably list a number of reasons why a person’s faith would waiver according to the events that happen around us… however, I’d like to come from a different angle and focus on ways we can keep the faith in times likes these.

  • Understand that these times are expected.

There are numerous Scriptures that support the times we are living in, especially the evil that is exhibited in the chaos we see today. Natural disasters aside, I am speaking specifically towards criminals and terrorists who make it a point to do harm to others.

“For they do not sleep unless they have done evil. And their sleep is taken away unless they make someone fall.” (Proverbs 4:16)

As much as it hurts us to remember, there are people who will fulfill what Scripture says… whether they are for Yahweh, or against Him. Embracing this can help us get through these difficult times.

  • Remember Who is in control.

I am about to quote one of the most controversial passages of Scripture… especially to those who only talk about the love of YHWH. But here’s my take on it… it’s what the Word says and I have chosen to believe it. Any thing, or any belief contrary will only send me down a path I don’t care to go down. So to prevent that, I choose to believe YHWH is in control of everything!

“I am YHWH, and there is none else – there is no Elohim besides Me. I gird you, though you have not known Me, so that they know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none but Me. I am YHWH, and there is none else, forming light and creating darkness, making peace and creating evil. I, YHWH, do all these.” (Isaiah 45:5-7)

Perhaps it would help us to honestly believe that the Creator King is in control of it all… the good, and the evil.

  • Know which side you’re on.

It’s easy for anyone to claim to believe, follow, and love YHWH but the true test is in a person’s fruit… their lifestyle… and their actions. It’s especially easy to appear “set apart” these days if one is not doing what is deemed by the masses as worthy of evil (i.e., murder, stealing, cheating, lying, etc.). The best indicator to know who’s side your on is this:

“Yeshua answered him, ‘If anyone loves me, he shall guard My Word. And My Father shall love him, and We shall come to him and make Our stay with him. He who odes not love Me does not guard My Words. And the Word which you hear is not Mine but of the Father Who sent me.'” (John 14:23-24)

Simply put, knowing which side we are on can help us keep the faith in these times. We are not moved are shaken by what goes on around us, but strengthened in knowing that we are on the winning side regardless of how bad it gets.

  • Draw strength and protection from the Source.

One quick Google search will pull up numerous Scriptures about the power and strength of YHWH, but do we really believe it? Do we feel as protected as those Scriptures promise? Well, friend, this is where faith kicks in big time.

“Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not look around, for I am your Elohim. I shall fortify you, I shall also help you, I shall also uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.” (Isaiah 41:10)

“But the Master is trustworthy, who shall establish you and guard you from the wicked one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

If He said, that settles it.

  • Deuteronomy 28

This passage has answered every single question I could ever ask that starts with, “Why does _________?” I know it’s totally open-ended, but it’s the truth. I invite you to read it because I’m not going to quote all 68 verses for you. But what I will quote are three key verses that highlight the overall meaning (and tone) of this incredible passage:

“And it shall be, if you diligently obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim, to guard to do all His commands which I command you today, that YHWH your Elohim shall set you high above all nations of the Earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim.” (Deuteronomy 28:1-2)

“And it shall be, if you do not obey the voice of YHWH your Elohim, to guard to do all His commands and His laws which I command you today, that all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.” (Deuteronomy 28:15)

Sounds pretty black and white if you ask me. Now, the choice is ours.

I believe these are some great ways for us to keep the faith in times like what we are experiencing today. We can find comfort in knowing that there is a greater picture, and there are greater things in store… we just need to endure and run this race to the end. If we do all we know to do, the rest in left in the hands of the Almighty. He is not a man that He should lie, and last time I read, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

As always, stay prayed up and keep others in prayer as well. Walk in the light, and be the light in this ever-darkening world.

Until next time, blessings-
