There are many unique and practical ways to teach homeschool art while traveling. In fact, with art being all around us, the possibilities for incorporating art into your homeschooling lesson plans are endless. Keep reading for a few creative ways to teach art while traveling.

Practical Ways to Teach Homeschool Art While Traveling
Start an art journal.
Journals are always my go-to with my children because they can use them however they want, it can become a keepsake resource, and it works with a variety styles of learning. You can find lots of art-related journals out there, but I settle for the simple Dollar Store spiral bound kind. I have found that by giving my kids an “open canvas” to work with, they can be more creative with what they do.
Use local buildings to teach architectural concepts.
From learning simple shapes to more complex concepts like angles, buildings can help teach your kids a number of things from an art perspective. Art is often the center and pinnacle of any and every design we see all around us, so learning about art in this way can open lots of new doors of learning.
Visit an art museum.
You can find an art museum in just about every major city in the US and some in smaller cities, too. These can make some incredible field trips. And if you check in advance, they may offer on-site activities for kids. Even if they don’t have anything going on, make sure your kids bring their art journals to document their favorite pieces, paintings, etc.
Look for local art classes.
Local boutiques and art shops often have painting classes, pottery classes, and the like. Look up what’s available for when you’ll be visiting and book and spot for your kiddos. Local libraries are also another spot to check out for art activities for the kids.
