A few months ago, Bryan and I decided now was the time to start our nomadic adventures. (You can follow this journey on Michelle’s Instagram.) Our first stop landed us about 3 hours east from our hometown in the beautiful town of Somerset, Kentucky.
In this post, we’re going to highlight places to stay and things to do in Somerset, KY. As always, we’ll add to it as our adventures brings us back (or close to).
Places to Stay and Things to Do in Somerset KY
Places to Stay
Gigi’s Gamehouse: An Immaculate Airbnb
This was the first house we stayed in and it was absolutely stunning. Not only did we have MORE than enough room, but as the name implies, it was a game house dream. We had a half basketball court, pickleball net, ping pong table, pool table, Xbox, and more!
It was completely stocked with everything from everyday essentials like shampoo, conditioner, and soap to salt, pepper, and tons of other condiments. All we needed to do was go grocery shopping. It’s filled with smart appliances and phone cord chargers (for both iPhone and Android) in every single room. Each room also had a big TV.
This home is positioned in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood and just a short few minutes drive to “town” where you can grocery shop, eat out, or see some sites. We stayed an entire month and was sad when it was time to go. Dan, the owner, is an amazing host!
A Beautiful Country Farmhouse
At the time of writing this, we are currently staying in a beautiful country farmhouse just a stone throw from Somerset in the town of Monticello. We have some friends here so for our second journey to this area, we decided to stay a bit closer to them. It’s still only a short drive to Somerset and even closer to some other nature-like activities to do.
This home is situated in the middle of a family farm and has all the farm feels. We have cows in front, beside, and behind us and we enjoy talking to them everyday. The neighborhood dogs also keep us company and the overall area is simply breathtaking.
This home also has plenty of space for our family and is decorated beautifully. We love it!

Things to Do
We didn’t venture out as much as this was less of a vacation and more of a search for our “forever home.” We were able to visit a local Somerset Park, a Historical Museum in Monticello, and a natural bridge in the Daniel Boone National Forest in Parkers Lake.
Fischer Fun Park
This was the first park we visited and it was a blast for the entire family. We ate lunch under the pavilion before enjoying a couple hours of fun playtime.
This gorgeous playground at Somersport Park includes ramps and a rocking boat for those in wheelchairs; sensory equipment for those with special needs, including devices to make musical sounds and animal noises; a 25-foot-tall viewing tower; a giant bluefish bridge; slides, swings, and a wheelchair-accessible Ten Spin, similar to a merry-go-round.
Natural Arch Scenic Area
We took Natural Arch Trail #510 (1.00 mile). The trail begins on the north end of the picnic area and runs along a paved pathway to the base of Natural Arch, passing two scenic overlooks along the way. At the arch, you may climb the steps to the arch itself or continue along a dirt pathway that loops around the northwest end of the arch.
Wayne County Historical Museum
This museum does an amazing job of preserving, interpreting, and promoting the heritage of Monticello and Wayne County and its people. Admission is FREE and they are open at the following times or by appointment:
April to October
10:00 AM till 4:00 PM
Tuesday Through Saturday.
November to March
10:00 AM till 3:00 PM
Tuesday Through Saturday.
Places to Eat
We love trying new-to-us food places. Below are the places we tried while being in Somerset/Monticello:
Final Thoughts
Overall, we absolutely love the Somerset KY (and Monticello) areas… so much so that we could actually see ourselves living here. We haven’t made any final decisions and will continue our adventures of traveling and visiting different places.
