My Oily Homeschool (and why you need one too)

Three years ago, I considered natural living a big green salad and an occasional smoothie from Smoothie King. I cleaned with products that had a scent of lemon or lavender but had a list of ingredients that I couldn’t pronounce. And if I (or a family member) had some type of ailment, to over-the-counter meds we’d go. Simply put, I knew nothing of what it really meant to live a natural lifestyle. . . until a friend started talking to me about essential oils. From there, my research began, my eyes were opened, and I was on a mission to creating a real natural lifestyle for my family – inside out.

I love how Scripture confirmed this new path of living a real natural lifestyle. The more I read, the more I realized that we simply needed to go back to the basics. Questions like, “What’s healthy to eat? What good are essential oils really? What does a healthy mind look like?” popped up, and were answered quickly.

First, I wanna talk about the oils because they are actually the foundation to everything else I want to get into. Good ol’ Proverbs, the book that will tell ya if you’re a fool or not, speaks of having oils as a good thing:

Desirable treasure and oil are in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man swallows it up.
Proverbs 21:20

Beyond that are numerous of other Scriptures that speak of oils being used for cooking/baking (most likely olive oil) and other oils/spices used in anointing, perfumes, and healing.

I saw a quote on Instagram that goes hand-in-hand with why I have an oily HOMEschool.

Health isn’t just about what you’re eating. It’s also about what you’re thinking and saying, and how you’re living and loving. -Unknown

Here’s is my thought about it. If the root of our actions (and reactions) are based on our thoughts (of the mind) and [scripturally speaking] oils have been proven to anoint and heal. . . then there’s no reason why we can’t use them as part of a remedy to attain a healthy lifestyle (inside and out) today! Please note that I am not elevating oils above the Word of God because that is a first (and given).

So what does my oily homeschool look like?

Anointed with oil. I have to admit that it has been awhile since I have anointed my home. *pauses to go get the oil* 🙂 Okay, I’m back. Anointing your home doesn’t necessarily come with a “magic formula”. It’s more about the heart of the matter. Choose a few Scriptures (Deuteronomy 6 has several for starters) and declare them as you anoint the doors, windows, and individual doors to each room. Believe that your home is covered by the Almighty and no weapon formed against your family (and home) will prosper!

Oily kiddos. Occasionally our kiddos will have oils applied directly on them. Whether is it lavender or stress away for calming or valor for concentration and courage, it enhances their well-being too.

Oily Mama. Valor and stress away are my go-to oils on any given day, but especially on those not-so-smooth days. Peppermint and lemon are awesome for an extra boost in energy and concentration.

Oily environment. To keep the air in our home cleansed and purified, I diffuse thieves essential oil (A LOT). If we’re experiencing a highly stressed day, I will diffuse stress away!

Oily Cleaning. After learning how toxic I was making my home environment by using harsh chemicals to clean with, I ditched that for an oily concoction of water, vinegar, and essential oil (usually thieves and/or lemon).

Without getting too deep into talking about frequencies and vibrations (which I encourage you to look into), just know that our bodies – down to the mind and our thoughts – operate in frequencies and vibrations. The mind is one of the most important because it controls what we do and say, and how we act and feel. Scripture even offers instruction on the mind:

. . . be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
Ephesians 4:23

. . . let this mind be in you which was also in Messiah Yeshua.
Philippians 2:5

Although it is a learning curve, I have enjoyed learning about living a lifestyle that is truly healthy inside and out. The way that essential oils have helped my family and I has been nothing short of amazing, and this is why I recommend that you consider having an oily homeschool too! There is a wealth of trustworthy information, resources, and materials that can help you along the journey – not to mention, I am here to help you as well! I’m not a doctor, but I have several testimonies of how an oily home, clean eating diet, and God’s Word have enhanced me and my family’s lives.
