If you’re a teacher or educator who wants to leave the classroom but not sure how to continue your love for teaching, consider starting a homeschool business!
Your Teaching Career Doesn’t Have to End
As an ex-teacher, I understand the joys of teaching. What started robbing that joy was the ever-changing curriculum, teaching for the “test,” and the quickness to diagnose students that didn’t meet the standards and/or passing those who were far from ready to move on.
Leaving the classroom didn’t mean my teaching days were over. It just meant that I needed an innovative way to continue doing something I loved.
My Teaching Continued
Soon after deciding to hang up my teaching hat, my husband Bryan and I decided that homeschooling our children would be best for their future. At the time, we only had one son who had spent preschool and kindergarten in the public school system and had a baby on the way (with 4 more being added since).
Curriculum Design
Within the first year of starting our homeschooling journey, I quickly realized that using pre-made boxed curriculum would not be my thing. I enjoyed some of the textbook features, but I also wanted a more fluid approach to teaching. So, I began creating resources to use in my homeschool and made them available for others to use as well.
Most of these are still available right now today, but many more have been added, including a handful that are now published and available on Amazon!
Virtual Co-op
Soon after I started blogging and creating resources, I also created a thriving Facebook Group called Outta Box Homeschooling. This group would grow to the thousands and then I had the bright idea to offer the first ever virtual co-op 100% free and 100% parent-led.
For several years, me and other moms signed up to teach co-op style classes in this Facebook group. I’d also use this group to teach tailored classes for homeschooling moms.
Huddleston Academy Live Academics (HALA)
Just before the pandemic, Bryan and I decided to open an online school, hire teachers, and give parents another avenue for adding unique, on-demand classes/courses to their homeschool. Although we closed the school, we are considering re-opening! (Stay tuned!)
Multi-Ethnic Homeschool Conference
For two consecutive years, Bryan and I hosted the first of its kind multi-ethnic with attendees from over 10 different countries!
How to Start a Homeschool Business
I shared all of that to show you that my passion for teaching evolved into several adventures that allowed me to continue doing what I enjoyed while serving others. This can certainly be the same for you, which is why I created a free handbook to teach you How to Start a Homeschool Business.
Whether you’re looking to open a full homeschool business, offer tutoring services, start teaching online using your own platform, or a number of other things, this handbook will help!
