5 Tips to Make Your Airbnb Stay Pleasant for You (and your host)
While this isn’t an exhausted list, these are our top five suggestions we recommend taking into consideration no matter what kind of home you’re staying or the location.
1. Don’t be afraid to communicate with your Airbnb host.
Some of our best Airbnb experiences started with clear communication with our host. From the time of booking their home, we are always upfront and honest about our stay. The same goes for the host. There have been a few times when host contacted us to let us know something that could affect our stay ahead of time.
Having an open line of communication is always a plus.
2. Do a thorough walkthrough before getting completely settled in.
We have always done this and have been able to catch important things ahead of time. While doing this sweep, pay attention to what is already in the home, where stuff is located, and how things are positioned. If you are like us and have a large family with small children, we go ahead and put things away that can be a hazard to little hands.
3. Designate specific places to keep your belongings.
Although Airbnbs are meant to be a “home away from home,” trust us when we say that you don’t want to completely move in. This is one of the quickest ways to lose track of your things and/or accidentally leave something behind. Our daughter likes to utilize the drawers of dressers and sometimes our boys will put things under the bed so we have to remind them to check those places on “pack-up day.”
4. Spot clean as you go.
Most Airbnbs are utilized during vacations so it’s easy to feel relieved from your normal day-to-day duties (like cleaning your house). However, cleaning as you go will ensure that you leave the property almost as clean as when you found it. We personally have our kids do their normal daily chores as if the home were our home and this guarantees the home stays nice and tidy.
5. Follow the instructions established by the host.
This is a given, or at least it should be. If the host has communicated a certain occupancy limit, quiet times, or particular instructions for using things in the home – follow them. They are certainly put their for a reason and should be abided by.

The concept of Airbnbs is a great one and they certainly beat staying in hotels. Follow our tips to make your Airbnb stay pleasant for you, your family, and your host. What are some other things you’d add to our list? Let us know in the comments!
